Clifford Akonte: Barrister at law at helm of SHESA

The Sacred Heart Ex-Students Association (SHESA) has elected a 44-year-old member of the 1993 batch, Barrister Clifford Akonte as its new President General, marking a generational transition in the leadership of the association.

The election took place during SHESA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Douala, following free, fair, and transparent elections. The new President General succeeds veteran journalist Ngobesing Suh Romanus, of the 1965 batch, who completed his mandate.

Speaking to the press after the elections, the outgoing President General said he was proud to hand over leadership to a younger SHESAN, describing the transition as a positive step for the future of the association.

The electoral process was conducted by the SHESA Independent Electoral Commission, chaired by Semma Valentine of the Bamenda Branch. Observers and participants commended the commission for its organisation and professionalism throughout the exercise.

The newly elected executive was officially installed by Minister Paul Tasong and Professor Fru Angwafo III, who urged the leadership to consolidate unity and work towards strengthening the association’s impact.

The new executive team is largely composed of young professionals; a factor many members believe will inject renewed energy into SHESA’s activities. Expectations are high that the association will continue its upward trajectory under the new leadership.

Since 2021, SHESA has recorded steady growth in membership and influence, expanding its activities and strengthening engagement across its branches nationwide.
