Ashong Social Cultural Dev’t Association Raises Over 16 Million FCFA For Multipurpose Community Hall

In a significant stride towards fostering development in Ashong, a village in the North West Region of Cameroon, the Ashong Social Cultural and Development Association (ASCUDA) has mobilised over 16 million FCFA, with 70% in pledges, for the construction of a Multipurpose Community Hall in the village. The funds were raised during the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Yaounde on Saturday, December 13, 2025

Ashong, a village in Batibo Subdivision, Momo Division, is the largest village in the Division and is home to approximately 9,000 people. The village has been actively working towards development, with ASCUDA playing a key role in driving progress. The Community Hall, as revealed by the National President of ASCUDA, Mbah John Timben, estimated to cost 120 million FCFA, will serve as a vital space for official functions, youth empowerment programmes, and other community-driven activities. The project is expected to have a significant impact on the village, providing a platform for community engagement, skills development, and social activities.

Major Contributors: Fongoh & Partners Real Estate

Major contributors to the fund include Fongoh & Partners Real Estate donated one million FCFA.  Tikum Vincent, Quality Director of Telcar Cocoa, who equally contributed a huge sum emphasized the importance of giving back to the community. “Many people are custom with the aspect of receiving in life, very few will try the aspect of giving; there’s more blessing that goes with giving back to life than receiving,” he said. 

The Fon of Ashong, Fon Mbafor Christopher III, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of ASCUDA and the generosity of the contributors. “Because From Buea, Tiko & today in Yaounde. From Buea, we raised some sum of money, went to Tiko, we raised some sum of the money. And we have done so much. We are currently distributing electricity in the village and many other things before we came up with this issue of the Hall. We are very lucky to have a very dynamic and hardworking executive that has put in everything & is sacrificing everything for the well-being of the population,” he said.

The Fon also highlighted the benefits of the Community Hall, saying, “We intend to establish places there may be where they can put some small facilities like tailoring, put machines that at least children can acquire some vocational skills that will help them. Apart from that, it will have a convenient avenue for all activities.”

The National President of ASCUDA, Timben John, emphasized the importance of the project, while the President of the host Branch Yaounde, Ndum John Teboh, noted that Ashong was singled out for the construction of the Multipurpose Hall, for the preservation and promotion of culture despite the ongoing socio-political and economic challenges in the Region.

The event showcased the unity and patriotism of the Ashong people, demonstrating their resolve to foster development in their village. The Association has successfully completed previous projects, including the palace and water project, and is committed to continuing its work towards improving the lives of the people of Ashong. The construction of the Multipurpose Community Hall is expected to commence soon, with the support of the Government and the people of Ashong.
