GBHS Kumbo: Ex-Students Offer Cash To Up GCE Registration

A total of 20 needy students from Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Kumbo, Bui Division have received the sum of 20,000FCFA each to ease their Cameroon General Certificate of Education (CGCE) registration. The donation by the 1986 batch of students from GBHS Kumbo comes to boost the students’ registration of the CGCE.

The ceremony took place on January 16, 2026 in the Principal’s office  and the 1986 batch was represented by three of the batch mates, Madam Tohtin Eucharia, Jumbam Donatus and Ngo Eugene.

The sum of FCFA 400,000 was distributed to the 20 students equally to assist them get registered for the CGCE; 10 for the Ordinary Level and 10 for the Advanced Level.

The funds are raised from the contributions of batch members, Class of 1986.

According to Dr Ernest Dzelamonyuy, President of the 1986 batch, this assistance to needy and intelligent students in the examination classes has been going on for four consecutive years… “and I have adopted it as a permanent Convention Project. We are looking forward to step up the amount so as to reach out to as many students as possible.” He said.

He thanked the staff and students of the college for their resilience despite the security challenges. “They have sustained the name of the Alma mater at these challenging moments. I thank the administration of the college for giving us the opportunity to meet with the students. I encourage the students to take their studies seriously and promise that the batch will always be there for them when it can. I pray that in the near future our Alma mater should regain its reputation as a prima facie institution of learning in the North West Region and in Cameroon,” said Dr Ernest Dzelamonyuy who is also the Head of Department, History, Heritage and International Studies, in the University of Bamenda.

Other activities of the 1986 batch of GBHS Kumbo include; reaching out to mates in need and join each other in joyful and sad moments. They also run a trust Fund for members and they are planning to take up some infrastructural projects in the college when the security situation becomes friendly.

The principal of GBHS Kumbo, Kimbi Wilfred thanked the donors for giving back to the Alma Mater while encouraging other batches to emulate the example of the 1986 batch. He enjoined the beneficiary students to show appreciation to their parents who were once students of the institution by passing in good grades in the GCE examinations.

The students on their part lauded the gesture, which has come like a stitch in time. They promised to give better results to the institution in their end of course examinations.
