PWD Social Football Club of Bamenda reignited their MTN Elite One campaign on Sunday, February 1 with a commanding 4–1 victory over Stade Renard of Melong at the Bamenda I Proximity Stadium, securing their first three points of the season in emphatic fashion.

Buoyed by a vibrant home crowd that included the Governor of the North West Region, Adolf Lele Lafrique, the Abakwa Boys delivered a confident and attacking performance that underlined their intentions for the season.

PWD took control of the contest early and was rewarded in the 28th minute when midfielder Ndonwie Fielding opened the scoring with a well-taken finish. Fabrice Ndeh Nsoh doubled the lead in the 41st minute before a flurry of late first-half action saw Jean Simplice Mbang pull one back for Stade Renard in added time (45+2). PWD, however, restored their two-goal cushion almost immediately as Aliyu Yaya struck in the fourth minute of stoppage time to make it 3–1 at the break.

The hosts maintained their dominance after the restart, and Junior Nguimbat put the result beyond doubt in the 60th minute with PWD’s fourth goal of the afternoon. Stade Renard struggled to cope with PWD’s pace, movement, and organisation, managing little response as the game wore on.

FONGOD Edwin Man of The Match, Ndonwie Fielding

Ndonwie Fielding, whose influence in midfield was evident throughout the encounter, capped his performance with a goal and an assist and was deservedly named Fongod Man of the Match. His composure, creativity, and leadership were central to PWD’s control of the game.

The match also marked a milestone for football in Bamenda, as Abdoul Razak, Abdoul Rachid, Mohamadou Arabo, and Ciracus Tanwie became the first referees to officiate an Elite One fixture at the Bamenda I Proximity Stadium.

Speaking after the match, Stade Renard coach Mathurin Kameni, acknowledged the quality of the opposition while voicing concerns about officiating. “It was a good match. PWD is a good team with a strong tactical playing style and they will go far,” he said. “We had issues with some refereeing decisions, but we will focus on correcting our mistakes and aim to take all three points at home.”

PWD head coach Tama Wango praised his players’ response following their setback in Limbe. “The boys have proven that they have been working very hard,” he said. “They showed on the pitch what we have been doing in training. We wanted to overturn what happened last week, and scoring four goals is a good sign. We hope they keep this spirit.”

Looking ahead, Wango admitted the challenge of the next fixture. “Gazelle is one of the best teams in the championship. We have used a lot of energy today, so recovery will be important. We will analyze where we were lacking and improve for the next match.”

The convincing win not only lifts PWD Bamenda’s confidence but also sends a strong signal as the MTN Elite One season gathers momentum.
