Ramadan 2026: Muslim Dignitaries Tells Faithful Moon Crescent Commission Remains Most Reliable Body

Muslim dignitaries say, the National Moon Crescent Commission, NMCC, remains, the most reliable body, responsible for announcing the official dates for the start of the Ramadan.

The declaration was made by  Professor Souley Mane, spokesperson, for the National Moon Crescent Commission, on February 16, 2026, during a press conference in Yaounde.

According to Professor Souley Mane, the NMCC is the lone body responsible to announce the dates, marking the start of the month of Ramadan, in strict accordance to the Islamic jurisprudence.

“The NMCC is the legitimate and consensus based body, supported by two of the three Islamic religious associations and benefits from the assistance of traditional authorities”.

“The NMCC wishes the Muslim community a blessed Ramadan fast, marked by submission to Allah, the Most-High, with piety, sharing, and Love,” he said.

He invited Imams and Muslim faithful to increase their prayers throughout the month of fasting for the strengthening of peace, unity, harmonious coexistence and prosperity in Cameroon.

For Yaounde Central Mosque Imam, he called on the Muslim community to put their trust on the National Moon Crescent Commission, he knows is the most credible body in handling issues related to the period of the Ramadan. “As we prepare to start the month of the holy Ramadan, the message for every Muslim  is to give or share with the needy, focus on helping the orphans, widows, that’s the essence for this month of fasting.
