Victoria United FC, popularly known as Opopo, delivered a disciplined and clinical performance to defeat PWD of Bamenda 1–0 at the Bamenda Proximity Stadium, completing a remarkable home-and-away double over the Abakwa Boys this season.

The Match Day 14 Elite One encounter was decided in the 63rd minute when substitute Santa Fouda struck the decisive goal, ending PWD’s impressive unbeaten home run and sending a strong message to title contenders.

PWD, backed by a vibrant home crowd, dominated large spells of the game, particularly in the first half creating several clear-cut chances. However, a lack of precision in front of the goal proved costly, as the hosts failed to convert any of their opportunities.

Victoria United’s tactical adjustments early in the second half proved pivotal. The introduction of Zokou and Fouda added attacking impetus, with the latter making an immediate impact by finding the back of the net with a composed finish that ultimately separated the two sides.

The match was not without off-field drama, as tensions flared before kickoff when some PWD supporters reportedly pulled down a Victoria United flag mounted at the stadium, underlining the intensity surrounding the fixture.

Speaking after the game, PWD head coach Tama Wango did not hide his disappointment, pointing to missed chances as the defining factor.

“We are very disappointed with the result. Playing at home, we created numerous scoring opportunities, especially in the first half where we had more than five clear chances. Unfortunately, we could not put the ball in the back of the net, and that ultimately cost us the game,” he said.

The coach emphasized that the defeat should serve as a learning moment for his squad. “Our biggest takeaway is the need to improve our finishing. We must be more clinical in front of goal. That is an area we will work on intensively so we can perform better in our next match.”

Wango also clarified the absence of key player Ninche from the starting lineup, noting it was a tactical decision rather than a fitness concern. “There is nothing wrong with Ninche. He has been performing well, but we noticed a slight drop in concentration levels. The decision was to allow him to re-energize and come back stronger. He remains an important part of the team.”

Despite the setback, the PWD coach expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to bounce back, insisting that their chance creation remains a positive sign.

For Victoria United, the victory reinforces their growing reputation as one of the league’s most resilient sides this season. Becoming the first team to defeat PWD at home while also completing a season double, marks a significant milestone for the club. As the Elite One campaign intensifies, PWD will now look to address their inefficiency in front of goal, while Victoria United carry momentum into their upcoming fixtures, buoyed by a statement win in Bamenda.
