CAMASEJ Douala has officially launched activities to commemorate World Press Freedom Day 2026 with a vibrant fitness exercise held last Saturday, April 18, at the Swimming Federation in Cité SIC, Douala.

The event brought together a cross-section of journalists, media professionals, and stakeholders in a dynamic atmosphere marked by unity, wellness, and professional solidarity. The initiative, which featured aerobics and a fitness walk, aimed at promoting healthy living among journalists while reinforcing the spirit of togetherness within the media community.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Divisional Officer of Douala V, who not only attended but actively participated in the fitness session. His presence and engagement underscored strong institutional support for the media and highlighted the importance of physical and mental well-being in the demanding field of journalism.

Addressing participants, the Divisional Officer commended journalists for their resilience, courage, and unwavering commitment to informing the public despite numerous challenges. He urged media professionals to remain steadfast in upholding ethical standards, promoting truth, and contributing meaningfully to national development.

The event also stood out for its inclusive and collaborative spirit, with both English-speaking and French-speaking journalists participating actively. This diversity reflected a shared commitment to the core values of journalism — to inform, educate, and uphold truth beyond linguistic or institutional boundaries.

Beyond the fitness activities, the gathering served as a platform for networking, experience-sharing, and renewing commitment to press freedom, responsibility, and excellence in reporting. It offered journalists a rare opportunity to connect outside the newsroom, strengthening bonds and fostering professional synergy.

This launch sets the tone for a series of activities lined up by CAMASEJ Douala in the lead-up to World Press Freedom Day. These activities aim to celebrate the vital role of journalists, while advocating for a free, responsible, and professional press in Cameroon.

The day’s event stands as a powerful reminder that a healthy journalist contributes to a healthy profession — one that remains resilient, united, and committed to serving society.
