A military tribunal in Bamenda has sentenced Tingum Otto, former second deputy mayor of Belo, to 25 years in prison for his role in the 2024 killing of Dr. Ngong Innocent Ankiambom.
The court found Otto guilty of involvement in the fatal shooting that occurred on May 20, 2024, during preparations for National Day celebrations. Dr. Ngong and several other local officials were attacked near the municipal grandstand as they gathered for the event.
The assassination sent shockwaves across Cameroon, particularly in the conflict-affected North West Region, where violence linked to the Anglophone crisis has continued to target both civilians and public officials. Judicial authorities say the conviction represents a significant move toward accountability in one of the region’s most high-profile killings. Meanwhile, security sources indicate that investigations are ongoing to identify and prosecute other individuals connected to the attack.
