Rescued victims from human traffickers
Elements of the Gendarmerie Brigade in Bwélélo, Dibombari Subdivision in the Moungo Division, have dismantled a suspected criminal network specialised in human trafficking and online fraud.
The operation, carried out on May 14, 2026, around midday, led to the rescue of 17 young Cameroonians who were allegedly being prepared for trafficking to Malaysia.
According to investigations led by Adj Chef Major Samuel Bouazoc, Commander of the Brigade, the case began after Reverend Movuh Derick of Gospel Center Church in Babenga arrived at the brigade accompanied by two young victims who had managed to escape from the network operating in Yapaki, Dibombari.
Initial testimonies revealed a well-organised scheme in which suspects published fake online recruitment offers targeting young people searching for job opportunities abroad. After convincing their victims, the traffickers allegedly collected huge sums of money before organising their illegal departure.
Further investigations conducted with the support of the Mbanga Gendarmerie Company and the Mbanga Investigation Brigade led to the arrest of four suspected members of the gang: Effim Leonel, 30; Mbi Betty, 26; Ako Boris, 28 and Nafissatou Berinyuy, 25.

Security forces also rescued 17 young Cameroonians who were reportedly ready to be trafficked to Malaysia. Some of the victims identified include; Yong Shela Ketfi, Monyue Metouke Cécile, Bongnkum Zeabu, Ewoh Ngasi Rash, Kupuken Pamela, Fru Elvira Kien, Nshanse Peace Bonsen, and Ewang Josiane, aged just 18.
Investigators say each victim allegedly paid an average of 550,000 FCFA to the traffickers in hopes of securing jobs and a better life abroad.
The operation once again highlights the dangers of fake online recruitment schemes and human trafficking networks exploiting vulnerable youths seeking opportunities overseas.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant against suspicious job offers circulated on social media and digital platforms.
